Tonight the camp celebrated it’s annual Livingstock event. The evening opened with many different activities which included, grilled cheese, spin art, candy apples and much more. Following Havdallah, the camp rocked out to an awesome band tonight which included both Staff and Campers. However, the evening did not end there, the camp went to enjoy a Midnight Breakfast with cinnamon rolls, hash browns and delicious Marx bagels. The evening was enjoyed by all.

Shabbat Shalom!
This week Moses makes a big mistake! After G-D instructs Moses to TALK to the rock to extract the much needed hydration for the community, Moses shouts at the people and hits the rock instead. First of all… we all know its better to use our words than to hit. But there is another problem with what Moses did. After hitting the rock, it might have seemed that it was through Moses’ own force that the water came forth. Taking credit for something that you didn’t do isn’t the way to build sacred community. And here at camp we learn that taking credit for our own ideas and victories isn’t always the way to go either. It is not an individual who climbs a mountain, but a cabin! By sharing our stumbles and our successes we all are lifted up!

The camp celebrated an early 4th of July with a day full of great activities. AU returned from their 2nd trip at Red River Gorge and reported that they had an amazing trip. (Look for pictures tomorrow) In the evening the camp settled down for an all camp campfire with 3 song leaders. Following the campfire, the camp enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show in honor of the early 4th of July. The day at camp was enjoyed by everyone. We are all looking forward to another great day at camp tomorrow and an amazing Shabbat Weekend.

The second Shabbat of the Summer is underway and everyone is enjoying a great Friday night song session. While this is the second shabbat, today was the first rainy day at camp. However, the rain did not keep away the fun, as we were playing in the mud, flying down the waterslide, and enjoying some relaxing movies. This Shabbat is going to be a great Shabbat as we are going to be celebrating Israel Day. Everything is going great out in Bennington.

This week’s Torah portion tells the story of Korach’s organized rebellion against Moses’ leadership. Although we don’t want to encourage mutiny at camp- we want the kids to learn that independent thinking is a GOOD THING. If your friend tells a joke at someone’s expense- speak up! If you want to spend Shabbat in the lake, but your cabin is going to the pool- that’s ok! Here at Livingston, each one of us is challenged to see the world through our own two eyes and enjoy our freedom to learn about ourselves and others. But with all these independent visions, we are sure to make our voices heard in ways that strengthen community!

All units have returned from their overnights safely and everyone had a great time. Additionally, we celebrated the Birthday of our director, Josh Klynn, by lifting him up 36 times in a chair in front of the entire camp. In the evening the camp was graced with a 2 hour Talent Show filled with the best talent that could be found in Bennington. The talents included singing, dancing, jokes, skits, and a great time. We are all looking forward to another great day tomorrow.

Things have been going great at Camp Livingston. Today Golan and Masada headed out on their overnights. Golan went to Piney Grove which is a campsite located on camp, while Masada went to Morgan’s Canoe to enjoy some rafting and camping. Chalutzim had a great prom dance tonight with delicious pizza and enjoyed an after prom filled with snacks and movies.
